Welcome to my blog
Hi, and welcome to my very first blog.
There is so much information out there. Books, programs, advice, opinions… and when you’re already exhausted, trying to figure out what actually applies to your child can feel impossible.
So I wanted to create a space where you can come, find a topic that’s relevant to you right now, and walk away with something useful, not more overwhelm.
I’ll always try to keep things simple, practical, and real. And if you want to learn more, I’ll include links or resources at the end so you can go deeper if and when you’re ready.
Why This Matters to Me
This isn’t just professional for me, it’s personal.
I’m a mum of five, and four of my kids are neurodivergent. Later in life, I was also diagnosed with ADHD… and not long after that, my husband was too.
So when I say I get it, really do.
But I didn’t always.
When I first became a mum, I had my daughter, and things felt… relatively straightforward. Then I had my son, and something felt different.
I remember being told:
“Boys are just energetic.”
“You just need to tire him out.”
But deep down, I knew this was more than that.
He would go from zero to a hundred in seconds. No amount of running around or “burning energy” changed what was happening underneath. I could see he was struggling, I just didn’t know why.
The Part No One Talks About
I started asking questions early.
I spoke to GPs, maternal child health nurses, eventually a paediatrician… and nothing really came from it. It felt like I was being brushed off.
So I did what a lot of parents do.. I kept going.
Then school started… and that’s when everything became harder to ignore.
I remember going back to the GP and saying:
“I know something else is going on. And if I don’t understand what it is, I can’t help him.”
That was the turning point.
He was eventually diagnosed at nine with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Autism.
The diagnosis itself wasn’t the goal, the understanding was. Because once you understand how a child’s brain and nervous system work, your whole approach shifts.
And for the first time, I felt like I had a way forward.
What I Wish I Knew Back Then
The biggest thing?
I didn’t know what I didn’t know.
No one had explained:
How a child’s nervous system affects their behaviour
Why some kids need space when they’re overwhelmed, and others need connection
What dysregulation actually looks like beneath the surface
Or how to respond in a way that actually helps
I was doing my best, but I didn’t have the right map.
Why I Created This Space
Now, years later, with more children, more experience, and working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner, I see the same pattern over and over again.
Parents:
Being dismissed
Feeling unsure
Questioning themselves
Or not having access to assessments or support because of cost
So this space is for you.
Whether you’re:
Wondering if something more is going on
Waiting for assessments
Already have a diagnosis but feel lost
Or just trying to get through the day
You’re in the right place.
What You Can Expect
My goal is simple:
To give you the information I wish I had — in a way that’s easy to understand and actually usable.
You’re Not Alone
If any of this resonates with you, stick around.
I’ll be sharing regular blogs, tips, and resources to help you better understand your child and feel more confident in how you support them.
Because sometimes, all it takes is one small piece of understanding to change everything.
